Affogato

I tend to eat ice cream all year round, however, it tastes so much sweeter when the weather is warm. With the city heating up (it reached 75 today!), I thought it would be the perfect day to enjoy some affogato on the balcony. Affogato (meaning "drowned") is an Italian espresso treat. You can order it at various restaurants and cafes. The first time I saw it on a menu was when I was in San Fransisco at Blue Bottle Coffee.

  • 2-3 scoops of vanilla bean ice cream
  • 1 shot of espresso, poured over the top

I've substituted vanilla bean for coffee flavored ice cream and I've also used coffee instead of espresso. The traditional recipe (and the way I prefer it) is what I have listed above.
