Irish Coffee

Being that I'm about 25% Irish and a total coffee addict, it seems fitting that I would enjoy some Irish coffee this weekend. The truth is though, I've never actually had one until yesterday! I'm not sure how this came to be, but after doing a bunch of research on the subject, and realizing how simple this recipe actually is, I figured I had to try it (and then share the results with you). My first attempt was successful. I know this because my husband, who has had quite a few Irish Coffees in his day, said it tasted perfect. Also, I truly enjoyed it myself! I had nothing to compare it to of course, but each and every sip got better and better (that could have been the whiskey taking over).

Either way, I plan on making this again. Below is the recipe I followed.

Irish Whiskey

Ingredients

  • 4 oz of fresh, hot coffee
  • 2 oz of Irish whiskey
  • 2 oz of heavy cream, slightly whipped
  • 1-2 teaspoons of brown sugar (adjust to taste)

Directions

1. In a mug or a glass mix: hot coffee, sugar, and whiskey 2. Pour heavy cream (slightly whipped) over the back of a spoon 3. Enjoy

Traditionally, you're supposed to drink the coffee through the cream. I didn't create as much separation between the coffee and cream as I would have liked to (it was much more difficult whipping cream than I thought it would be!). Next time I would consider buying pre-whipped cream. I would also consider adding a coffee liqueur to the mix.

Click here for my coffee liqueur recipe and here for my St. Patrick's Day post from last year. It saddens me that temperatures were in the 80's this time last year. We'll be lucky if we break 30 degrees this weekend!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
