Valentine's Day: DIY Ideas
February is right around the corner, and you don't want to wait too long to decide on a Valentine's Day gift (we've all been there). In my opinion, the best kind of gifts are ones that are homemade. If you're going that route, then you need to get started early - no one wants to be up late the night before trying to throw something together! Below are some easy, budget friendly DIY gift ideas (great for him or her).
Framed Art
This framed ampersand piece is a cute and artistic way to show your love. All you need is a frame and some colorful prints (possibly from magazines or catalogs around the house). Follow these directions on Design*Sponge for what to do.
Banner
I'm actually in the process of making a Valentine's banner for our fireplace (blog should be up next week). This craft is very simple. All you need is assorted paper or fabric (or both) and some string. Check back soon for my "how-to", or follow instructions for this banner here.
Dessert Toppers
Baking for Valentine's Day is a must. I always make my hubs his favorite cupcakes, and in the past I've added some simple toppers (last year's Valentine's Blog here). All you need to glam up your dessert is some toothpicks and paper. This idea can be used on any type of V-day treat.
Chalkboard Mugs
You can pretty much add chalkboard paint to anything these days (trust me, I have). For this craft, all you need is a plain mug, chalkboard paint, and chalk. You can paint the entire mug or just an area with room to write a message or create a design. For more chalkboard ideas, check out this blog.
Handmade Cards
I love simple/cheesy handmade cards. These 4 were featured in the February issue of Real Simple (and boy, are these simple). For these, everything you need should already be available in your home.
Personalized Pillow
I've never actually made a personalized pillow, but after reading this blog, I really want to! There are so many great love quotes and song lyrics that couples can identify with. I really like this craft, because it isn't over-the-top, and it would fit great in any room all year long.
